This is a Kibi Provinces song for the Jo~wa Great Thanksgiving fetival. "Makane fuku" (smelting iron)is a makurakotoba for Kibi(the provinces of Bizen, Bitchu~, Bingo, and Mimasaka; now Okayama and eastern Hiroshima Prefectures), where iron was mined. Naka Mountain was on the border of Bizen and Bitchu~. Man'yo~shu~ 1102 is a similar poem bout Mount Mikasa. The Great Thanksgiving festival (Daijyo~sai) was held following the enthronement of a Mikado. Two provinces were selected to contribute new rice for offerings to the gods. The Jo~wa festival celebrated the enthronement of Ninmyo~; Bitchu~ was one of the provinces that offered rice. |
