Poems 1011-1068 are haikai(humorous) poems, a term borrowed from Chinese essays on poetry. These poems may contain expressions not ordinarily considered suitable for waka, unusual engo and kakekotoba, or personifications, but many are not markedly different from poems found in other books or the Kokinshu~ . "Hitoku" (a person comes) represents the sound of the cry of the uguisu (mountain thrush). The next ten poems are arranged in the order of the seasons. |
