歌英語 |
October the month / when the awesome gods retreat / has come suddenly / this morning the clouds gathered / to shed the first cold / rain of winter together / with the colored leaves / on our old hamlet deep in / Yoshino Mountain / raging storms sweep down the slopes / each day grows more chill / the pearl necklace is untied / its jewels stripped and / scattered as wildly falling / hail frost crystals freeze / on the now rock-hard surface / of my ravaged garden / where brown hillocks and mounds of / withered grasses stand / soft snows settle there and spread / drifting from the thick / white clouds that blanket the sky / ah how many new / years unformed as rough-cut gems / have I lived to see pass by / |
解釈 |
Lines 1-5- "Chihayaburu" (awesome) is a makurakotoba for Kannazuki(the Godless Month, the tenth lunar month). Lines 6-10- "Furu" (to fall)/ "furusato" (home town) functions as a kakekotoba. For Yoshino, see 3. Lines 21-25 "Aratama no" is a makurakotoba for "toshi" (year). |
