歌ローマ yamagawa no / oto ni mono kiku / momoshiki o / mio haya nagara / miru yoshi mo gana /
歌英語 distant rumors reach / me like the murmurs of an / unseen mountain stream / how I wish I could see the / palace fences as before /
解釈 If this poem concludes the collection of Ise's poems that include her elegies for the Consort Onshi (d.907), it is among those that establish the date of compilation of the Kokinshu~ as post-905. "Yamagawa no" (of the mountain stream) is a makurakotoba for "oto" (sound; rumors) "Mio" (body; river channel) is also a kakekotoba. "Haya" (swift) and "yamagawa" are engo.
