| 解釈 |
Seiwa and Yo~zei tenno~ reigned during the Jo~gan era, 859-877. Presumably it was Seiwa whose question prompted this poem. Kannazuki, the Godless Month, was the Tenth Month. The nara (oak), also called the hahaso, grows prolifically in the Nara area. This is the oldest reference to the compilation of the Man'yo~shu~, but a textual variant makes the dating questionable "nara no miyako" (the Nara capltal) was the capital from 710 to 794; but if the fourth line reads "nara no mikado" (the Nara Mikado), it refers to Heizei tenno~, who reigned from 806 to 809. |
