The retired Mikado attended the first party held at the residence of Prince Nakatsukasa, when a boat had been built and was to be set afloat on the garden pond. Toward evening, the Mikado prepared to withdraw, and Ise composed and presented this poem. |

For the retired Mikado, see 919. Nakatsukasa was Prince Atsuyoshi, son of Uda tenno~. Ise, Consort (ko~i) of Uda tenno~, later bore a daughter, known as the poet Nakatsukasa, by Atsuyoshi. |
