Ninmyo~ tenno~, the Fukakusa Mikado, was buried in Fukakusa, now part of Fushimi-ku, Kyo~to. The first line of the poem, "kusa fukaki" (the grass is deep), alludes to the grave site, Fukakusa (deep grass). |
