"Kare" (withering; separating) is a kakekotoba. The poet has woven her surname, Ono, into the poem where it means "little meadows." "Omoi"/hi (longings; fire) and "moekeru" (burns; buds) are kakekotoba. "Moekeru" (burns) and hi (fire) arc engo, as are "moe" (buds) and "asaji" (rushes). |
