The vocabulary of this poem is laden with Buddhist overtones- "Kokoro no yami" (the darkness of the heart) is a phrase used to describe the blindness of the unenlightened; "madou" (to be perplexed, lost) describes the lives of those unenlightened beings who live in darkness; "yume" (dream illusion) is the state from which one must awaken, achieving life in "utsutsu" (reality). |
