This story is told of this poem- Long ago Nakamaro was sent by the Mikado to China to study. For many years he was unable to return, but, when at last he was to accompany an imperial envoy back, the Chinese held a farewell banquet at a place by the sea called Mei. It is said this poem was composed when night fell and the moon rose bewitchingly. |
