"Hisakata no" (broad-?@) is a makurakotoba for "ama" (sky). This poem begins the sequence of Tanabata poems celebrating the yearly meeting, on the seventh day of the Seventh Month, of the celestial lovers, the herdsman (Altair) and the weaver maid (Vega), who are separated by the river of heaven, the Milky Way. The poems are arranged to form a narrative. This poem is linked to 174 by the repetition of two lines. |
